CORE TOPIC:
Penis TS (VLP)

This is a transverse section through the shaft of the penis of an adult human male. The penis consists of three cylindrical masses of erectile tissue, on the dorsal aspect are the paired corpora cavernosa (1) , ventrally, the corpus spongiosum (2) enclosing the penile urethra and distally forming the glans penis. The erectile tissue is surrounded by a dense connective tissue layer, the tunica albuginea (3). More superficially, there is a loose layer of connective tissue beneath the skin which contains large blood vessels.
